I was really curious about the multiple self-proclaimed Internet online dating wannabe pickup artists that maintain that their online dating pickup advice is a sure-fire way to get responses from women of online dating sites. I have done an extensive research and I can tell you with confidence that the ONLY e-books that are worth reading are the ones that you can buy online, not the ones you can download for free. One of the free dating e-book recommends that when you initially contact a woman on a dating site, you ask her a question, and a good question to ask would be “so, tell me something crazy and exciting you did today. How is it for starters?”
Now think about a woman on a dating site who receives hundreds of e-mails from that dating site every single day. She is there to meet someone, not to engage in some sort of e-mail banter with a complete stranger. As a woman, how would you feel if someone you don’t know asked you a question that required an in-depth detailed answer? I’d personally just delete it. Why would I want to engage in a conversation about my daily routine with someone I’ve never met?
Another free e-book recommends to never compliment a woman. What’s wrong with that? Dude, do you know that “a man loves with his eyes, but a woman loves with her ears”? If you can’t compliment a woman, you stand no chance with her. Never compliment a woman? Every woman would ponder why the heck is he writing to me if there is nothing he likes about me. Complimenting a woman is a must if you want to get a response. I am not saying you should go on and on about how awesome she seems, but outlining the things you liked in her profile is a must.
Another piece of advice from the same book is if you compliment a woman, your compliment should follow by a “snappy ball busting” comment, meaning that as soon as you give a compliment, you take it back. For instance, “nice hair…….for a blond girl”, “nice nails…….are they real?”
Excuse me? Is this advice for some insecure guy who can’t get laid in years? If you are contacting a woman and think she is not up to par, you are discounting YOURSELF. Discounting compliments - this is the first thing that turns a woman off and sends your message in the trash without even glancing at your profile. These kind of statements are very demeaning. Not a good way to make the first impression, not to mention you are taking the risk of getting your profile blocked from future contact.
I receive my fair share of demeaning e-mails. And guess what? All of those are from men that cannot measure up. They apparently think that attacking me will trigger a response. C’mon guys, what are we in first grade. Grow up already!
Then I scrolled down a bit further and found that those pickup lines are targeted to women on MySpace. Ok, nevermind.
A man who is contacting a woman on a “real” dating site such as Match.com or Singlesnet.com should convey a subtle message that he is a great catch looking for another.
